EP. 035 - The Lie Detector (Feat. Miguel Rivas)
Actor, Writer, Show Runner, and Nardwuar lover Miguel Rivas is on the pod and lies about his height so much that it inspires the prompt “Lie Detector”. The story that is crafted as a result needs to be heard to be fully understood. Somewhere at the intersection of political thriller, moral conundrum, forbidden love…and a Nardwuar-like villain hell bent on telling the truth.
EP. 034 - Foie Gras (Feat. Alex Tindal)
It’s a tale as old as time. You’re 16, raised staunchly religious by your satanist parents. Instead of spinning Beatles Records backwards like a good little demon, you played them forwards to hear secret messages about god and love. Oh yea, then you and your best friend got turned into ducks and were sacrificed at your first Bacchanal.
This week, actor, writer, and improviser Alex Tindal is on the show to help us tell a totally-normal story about a totally normal “Hellbilly teen that meets a talking duck”.
EP. 033 - Control Room (Feat. Emily Callahan)
What looks like a thriller, sounds like a thriller, but plays as a comedy? A NEW EPISODE OF NO REWRITES!! Standup comedian, Improviser, and Sketch Guru Emily Callahan is on the pod to tackle her prompt “Black Mirror Thriller”. The result is inarguably some good TV.
EP. 032 - Dude, where art mine carriage? (Feat. lance oribello)
We’ve all heard the rumors that Shakespeare had a ghost writer. The details are just a bit fuzzy. Actor and improviser Lance Oribello is on the show to help us bring things into focus for a “Shakespeare” prompt. Somehow, this evolves into the 17th century-Back to the Future-Dude Where’s My Car? crossover that no one asked for.
EP. 031 - DITCHED (Feat. BRANDON CRAGGS)
Romantic Comedies are usually about people getting together but in this story, we endeavour to tear them apart. Actor, writer, and improviser Brandon Craggs is on the scene to dismantle the “first love lost” prompt and the result is… pretty much the movie Hitched but in reverse. Though you’ve never asked for it, you’re welcome.
EP. 030 - TWENTY DOLLARS SHORT (Feat. GHAZAL GHIAMI)
Glen Giddy is not laughing when he finds himself twenty dollars short on rent. Writer, performer, and comedian Ghazal Ghiami joins us to unpack the “worst day ever” prompt. Together they grapple with a struggling artist, a child of divorce, a John-Wick-obsessed landlord, and clandestine high school gamblers. Will Glen get to keep the lights on? Or is his (John) wick about to burn out?
EP. 029 - The Key (Feat. Chelsea Larkin)
Actor, Improviser, and writer Chelsea Larkin comes to the rescue after the “5 minutes to save the world” prompt threatens everything we hold dear. When the Pentagon detects an imminent nuclear launch, there's only one man who can stop it—a brooding, gravel-voiced agent with the grit of Batman and the intensity of Jack Bauer. The catch? The vital key to prevent Armageddon is in the possession of Jim Pickles, the Pentagon's bumbling concierge, who’s more concerned with the fact that he’s getting dumped and kicked out of his house for some highly questionable Facebook activity. With just 5 minutes on the clock, our hero must race against time, cut through chaos, and somehow reason with the hapless Pickles before it's too late.
EP. 028 - Money Shot (Feat. J.J. Greenberg)
Actor and Improviser J.J. Greenberg thrust into the world of adult filmmaking after pulling the prompt “Judd Apatow” (and somehow it all makes sense). The story follows super-successful adult film star John Thrust, who yearns for a career in ‘real’ movies but the offer of a lifetime leaves him at a crossroads. Will John pull out of his career, even if it costs him the ones he loves? Or will he put his money where his mouth is?
EP. 027 - Putt 2 Death (feat. Tim Blair)
Actor, Writer, Standup Comedian, Improviser, and Actual Tall Boy, Tim Blair joins us to tackle yet another “Sports” prompt. This time, it’s the most extreme sport there is: Mini Putt! Retired champion, Gilligan Condor, must dust off his putter and enmesh himself into a group of elite (and definitely evil) minigolfers in a high-stakes tournament where the cost of losing is death. Will Condor succeed in bringing these crooks to justice? Or will he be…Putt To Death?
EP. 026 - My Robot
Adeel and Jono are left to their own devices to face yet another 'musical' prompt. Seeking inspiration, they also draw "robot" and "fight scene" from the bowl and use them to craft an improvised musical about a displaced robot named Chris Paul in search of its human owner. Will the boys win a Grammy? No. Will Chris Paul find what he’s looking for? You’ll have to suffer through it to find out.
EP. 025 - Love at First Bite (feat. Julia Ettlinger)
Actress, Improviser, writer, and show producer Julia Ettlinger joins Adeel and Jono to craft a “Rom Com'' about struggling chef, Julia, who decides to confront her biggest food critic. The table is set to stun, the doors are locked, and it’s time to get the re-review she deserves but tensions rise as their paths become romantically (and comedically) intertwined. Will Julia save her family’s legacy? Or is there something else on the menu?
EP. 024 - Mocktail
Honest question: Have you ever wanted to punch a four-year old? Well you’re in luck, this week, a “Rivalry” prompt sparks another generational battle and we witness a grumpy bar owner grappling with his newest competitor: A four year old boy who opens a watering hole across the street. Adeel and Jono light things on fire, again trying their hand at another fully-improvised read, but will their insurance policy cover the damage?
EP. 023 - Echoes
Adeel and Jono struggle to stay alive after getting “Survivor” as a prompt. This episode takes place on a deserted island where a lonely castaway discovers a mysterious presence that may or may not have the best of intentions.
EP. 022 - The First Strike
Adeel and Jono swing for the fences and delve into a “Sports” prompt. The result? A home run so epic that it breaks the fabric of time and calls into question the very origin of the sport. The boys throw a curveball and fully improvise the script. Do they hit it out of the park or do they strike out? They’ll let the fans decide.
EP. 021 - Bulldozer (feat. Glenna Walters)
Actress and Improviser Glenna Walters helps Adeel and Jono unpack their strangest prompt yet: “Kicked out of the Improv Community”. Together, they explore their own connections and approaches to art and forge a therapeutic script about coming to terms with love and loss.
EP. 020 - War of Ages (feat. Nick Atef)
Adeel and Jono are joined by their first-ever guest, actor Nick Atef! They are invaded by a “War” prompt and explore an extremely-possible future where Gen-Z rises up and goes to war with their elder generations in order to reclaim their future and restore balance to their collapsing society.
EP. 019 - The Outlier
In this powerful episode, Adeel and Jono take on a “super hero” prompt. The story circles around a veteran hero training a new sidekick on the protocols of crime fighting. Tensions rise as the rookie grapples with the morality of their mentor's actions, leading to a climactic showdown that forces them to confront their own ideals of justice and integrity.
EP. 018 - Chünk
In this “Bottle Episode”, Adeel and Jono’s love of filmmaking once again forms the backdrop of the story. This time, it’s a hot-headed casting session wherein a production team debates the lead role for a new feature film. The director wants to cast 6’4” dreamboat Brock Dormand, while the producer pushes for Paul Chünk, an inexperienced and dorky actor with astonishingly-large hands. As tempers flare, we learn there may be an ulterior motive to the producer’s choice.
EP. 017 - The Lure
Adeel and Jono double down and pull “Plot Twist” and “Monster” from the forsaken bowl of prompts to craft an eerie tale about an island governed by a singular, sentient being that demands human sacrifice in exchange for settling on its land. Detective Hope is called to the scene to investigate an alleged missing person but quickly discovers that the locals have other plans for him…
EP. 016 - The Cloudfire Chronicles
Adeel and Jono are back in full force with a new season and a new name! They kick things off with their most epic script yet: a Star Wars Stoner comedy! After the fall of Anakin Skywalker and the rise of Darth Vader, the Jedi order has been all but decimated and the galactic empire scours the outer rim to snuff out the remaining few. Meanwhile, on the desert planet of Tatooine, a lesser-known Jedi, Caelum Cloudfire, is in hiding and has hung up his lightsaber in favor of a bong, lit by his fading spark of rebellion. As Sith Lord, Darth V’iruz closes in, Cloudfire sinks deeper into his couch, high on the dankest weed in the galaxy: Yoda Kush.
